One night, I was (as usual) racking my brains for a bedtime tale to tell my children. Just when I thought all was lost, the picture of a huge, mournful crocodile with no teeth flashed before my eyes. I heard his stumbling, spittle flecked speech. Out came tumbling the other characters- the crocodile's tiny but wise friend, the plover bird and the evil bone clacking, teeth stealing poacher. Thus the story was born almost fully formed, a rare occurrence- at least for me.
